The LEd Laboratorio di Editoria aims to provide a sound understanding of the environment and the tools required to work professionally in the publishing sector, both traditional and digital, as well as in those sectors that require publishing skills.
In particular, the training will cover the key stages in the production of a book or an e-book (concept development, from manuscript to layout, proofreading, graphic design, file preparation for printing and online publication), administrative management (contracts, copyright, archiving and stock management), distribution (physical and online channels) and promotion (websites, social media, reviews, book launches, dedicated events).
During the workshop, we will also cover aspects more specifically related to the production and dissemination of e-books (or digital publications), particularly in relation to the models and processes involved in the production and dissemination of scientific communication (with a particular focus on open access) and to emerging approaches and technologies such as Open Science and artificial intelligence (AI). Finally, in response to recent legislative developments, part of the programme will be devoted to an in-depth examination of the characteristics of an accessible digital publication, and thus to the formalisation of content in a manner that meets accessibility requirements. To complement and round off the training, companies and professionals from the sector will be invited to share their experiences and will be directly involved in the workshop’s activities.
In addition to the specific content, the workshop will develop the following cross-cutting skills: creative competence to experiment with new ways of ‘creating culture’; basic digital skills, to make informed use of information technologies and new means of communication; communication skills, to convey the book and its contents clearly and effectively; the ability to work in a team, to share one’s skills and experience, coordinate efforts, complement one another and complete the various tasks.
Target audience: the workshop is aimed at students at the University of Macerata, as well as people from outside the University, such as cultural practitioners.
Dates: October – December 2026; Fridays and Saturdays; classes begin on 9 October 2026.
