eum – Edizioni Università di Macerata have been awarded the 2026 Antonio Prenna Award, in recognition of their outstanding contribution to culture and to the promotion of literary translation. The award was presented on 6 June in Civitanova Alta during the ninth edition of the Annibal Caro Prize, one of Italy's foremost events dedicated to literary translation.

The award was presented to the Macerata-based University Press “il prezioso impegno profuso nel panorama culturale del nostro territorio e nella promozione della traduzione come valore cardine di apertura e dialogo. Questa realtà editoriale, legata all’ambito accademico ma capace di ascoltare i fermenti e le tendenze esterne, dimostra come la cultura locale sappia aprirsi al mondo, celebrando l’arte del tradurre come potente motore di coesione e crescita per l’intera comunità”.

The award was accepted by Simona Antolini, President of eum, who spoke of translation as more than a linguistic practice: a way of understanding the world through relationships, encounter and intercultural exchange. John McCourt, Rector of the University of Macerata, also addressed the audience, expressing his gratitude for an award presented in the city where he lives and thanking all those who have contributed to the University Press over the past twenty years, helping to establish eum as one of Italy's leading university presses.

The 2026 Annibal Caro Prize for literary translation was awarded to Daniele Petruccioli for his Italian translation from French of La balia di Bacon by Maylis Besserie (Voland). The Technical Jury also presented two joint awards to Barbara Delfino, for her translation from Polish of Come un fiore di papavero scuro by Maryla Szymiczkowa (Rizzoli), and Yasmina Melaouah, for her translation from French of Disertare by Mathias Énard (e/o).

The ceremony also honoured Anna Ruchat with the Lifetime Achievement Award for her distinguished work as a translator from German. Special Mentions were presented to Emanuela Bonacorsi for her new translation from Russian of The Twelve Chairs by Il'ya Ilf and Yevgeny Petrov (Voland), and to Giusi Drago for her new translation from German of Alfred Döblin'sBerlin Alexanderplatz (Mondadori).

The award ceremony marked the conclusion of TRAD. – Translation Festival, a three-day programme of talks, discussions and cultural events celebrating the art of translation in Civitanova Alta. Among the festival's featured speakers was translator Stella Sacchini, who presented her recently published eum volume Tornare a ridere al giorno (Returning to Laughter Every Day).
