EUM wins the 2026 Antonio Prenna Prize
A significant recognition for eum edizioni università di macerata, which has been awarded the 2026 Antonio Prenna Memorial Prize. The prize was presented on Saturday 6 June in Civitanova Alta as part of the ninth edition of the Annibal Caro Prize, one of the leading events dedicated to literary translation.
The Prize was awarded to the Macerata-based publishing house for “il prezioso impegno profuso nel panorama culturale del nostro territorio e nella promozione della traduzione come valore cardine di apertura e dialogo. Questa realtà editoriale, legata all’ambito accademico ma capace di ascoltare i fermenti e le tendenze esterne, dimostra come la cultura locale sappia aprirsi al mondo, celebrando l’arte del tradurre come potente motore di coesione e crescita per l’intera comunità”.
The award was accepted by Simona Antolini, President of eum, who emphasised the value of translation as an expression of a worldview based on the centrality of relationships and the creation of intercultural connections, and the rector, John McCourt, who, as well as expressing his thanks for an award from the city in which he lives, extended his gratitude to all those who work for the publishing house and who, over its twenty-year history, have made it a national benchmark.
The 2026 edition of the Annibal Caro Prize was won by Daniele Petruccioli for his translation from French of Maylis Besserie’s novel *La balia di Bacon* (Voland). The Technical Jury’s joint prize was awarded to Barbara Delfino, for her translation from Polish of *Come un fiore di papavero scuro* by Maryla Szymiczkowa (Rizzoli), and to Yasmina Melaouah, for her translation from French of *Disertare* by Mathias Énard (e/o).
During the ceremony, the Lifetime Achievement Award was also presented to Anna Ruchat, one of the most distinguished translators from German, and two special mentions were awarded to Emanuela Bonacorsi for her new translation from Russian of *The Twelve Chairs* by Il’ja Il’f and Evgenij Petrov (Voland) and to Giusi Drago for her new translation from German of *Berlin Alexanderplatz* by Alfred Döblin (Mondadori).
The awards ceremony brought to a close the three-day TRAD. – Festival of Translation, which brought Civitanova Alta to life with talks, discussions and in-depth sessions dedicated to the art of translation. Among the key figures at the event was the translator Stella Sacchini, who presented her book *Tornare a ridere al giorno*, recently published by eum.
