The University of Macerata Press: EUM (Edizioni Università di Macerata)
The letters in the acronym EUM suggest an ideal library.
Knowledge as a secular temple, as an architrave…letter 'E' turned upside-down becomes letter 'M'. Letter 'M' may be conceived as a writing desk where one sits to read and study.
A ‘faculty of reading’, an eye cast over the world.
The University of Macerata Press (EUM) was founded between 2004 and 2005 with the aim of promoting, enhancing and spreading research and activities carried out at the University of Macerata within its institutional aims. Indeed, since its establishment the University of Macerata has acknowledged the primary role of research and has been actively involved in promoting research and divulging its results.
Moreover, EUM seeks to be a ‘universal’ publishing house. This means that EUM is not only seizing the opportunities linked to in-house research, but has developed an easy style, typical of essays, and thus strives to address a wider audience than that of scholars, with an eye to the surrounding community.
In addition, collaboration with other publishers who are members of the Italian University Press (UPI) has been increasing. In spring 2009, the wish to challenge the status quo of the Italian publishing industry and to satisfy the need to enhance its impact and its visibility, encouraged a group of UPI publishers to set up a coordinating panel to develop shared activities. Their first objective was to divulge high-quality literature linked to research and scholarly results, in order to contribute to spreading scientific knowledge at national and international level.
