Otello is based on the libretto of Otello by Arrigo Boito.
“These pages tell a story which takes place in a coastal city on the island of Cyprus. You need to know that a few centuries ago the brave captain Othello, also named the Moor due to his dark skin, was in that land. Othello was married to a wonderful woman whose name was Desdemona and he had a friend named Iago.
Iago was jealous that Othello had promoted Cassio, another character in this story, as his lieutenant. So, Iago deceives and tricks Othello into getting angry with Desdemona.
This story was told by a famous English writer, William Shakespeare. Then Giuseppe Verdi, a famous Italian composer, re-elaborated this story with music and songs as a lyrical opera. This little book is intended for children in order to help them understand the opera by explaining the story it tells. This book was illustrated by children, just like you, who had fun drawing the scenes and characters.
Have fun!"
