The LEd Publishing Workshop. Book production stages, professional figures and skills involved aims to provide adequate knowledge of the environment and tools necessary to operate professionally in the field of publishing, both traditional and digital, as well as in those sectors that require publishing skills.

In particular, the training will cover the fundamental stages of book production (concept, from text to layout, proofreading, graphics, file processing for printing and online publication), administrative management (contracts, copyright, archiving and warehousing), distribution (physical and virtual channels) and promotion (websites, social media, reviews, presentations, dedicated events).

The programme will also cover aspects more specifically related to the creation and dissemination of electronic books (or digital publishing products), particularly in relation to models and processes for the development and dissemination of scientific communication (with a focus on open access dissemination) and emerging approaches and technologies such as Open Science and artificial intelligence (AI). Finally, in response to recent legislative developments, part of the programme will be dedicated to exploring the characteristics of an accessible digital publication, and therefore to formalising content in a manner that meets accessibility requirements.

To supplement and complete the training, companies and professionals in the sector will be invited to share their experiences and will be directly involved in the workshop activities.

Course participants will also develop the following cross-cutting skills: creative skills to experiment with new ways of “making culture”; basic digital skills to be able to use information technology and new means of communication in an informed manner; communication skills to communicate clearly and effectively about books; the ability to work in a team, to share their skills and experience, to coordinate, complement each other and complete various tasks.

Target audience: the workshop is aimed at students of the University of Macerata and Higher Education Schools, but also at people outside the University, such as cultural operators and secondary school students.

Duration: 7 November – 13 December 2025, Fridays and Saturdays 9am-1pm; 2pm-6pm

Places available: maximum 30 for each module

Programme: 3 modules. It is possible to attend the entire course or choose only some of the modules.

Attendance: lessons will be held in person at the Sala Sbriccoli del Casb (Piazza Oberdan, 4 - Macerata) and the Polo didattico Pantaleoni (Via della Pescheria vecchia, 26 - Macerata). To obtain the certificate of attendance, students must attend at least 75% of the activities and write a final report on the module(s) attended.

Participation in the LED may be assessed, at the student's request, for the recognition of training credits within the scope of “additional training activities” (Ministerial Decree No. 270 of 22 October 2004, Art. 10, paragraph 5, letter d).
